The Jane Eyre – Manchester

Joe, Johnny, Frank and Jack, our lovely clients and co-founders of The Jane Eyre, approached Phaus to evolve their vision and deliver their second venue in Manchester. Already opperating their first Jane Eyre in Ancoats, a thriving regenerated neighbourhood in the city centre, they felt that they needed our expertise to take them forward. Phaus visited various sites with the boys to provide that expert opinion on the buildings' opportunities and assets, capacity feasibility studies and budgets. The prominent site, on the popular Beech Road in the south Manchester village of Chortlon, was a rare opportunity not to be missed. It required a complete strip out and remodel for The Jane Eyre to successfully operate practically and provide the diversity of spaces that we wanted to deliver for the venue. Their existing DNA of blue and off white is sensitively handled and additional textures and details in the off-white palette provide a softness not achiveable in paint alone. Critically we needed to dial-up the mid-century modern approach with rich timber veneers, quality light fittings and furniture as well as carefully curated found pieces. As with all of our designs, its a case of 'go bold or go home'. Here we created a destination area to talk about, with its floor to ceiling veneered panelling, shelving and staircase, a glossy teal bespoke ceiling grid and linoleum gridded floor. The design is the perfect place for them to showcase their carefully considered seasonal food and drinks menu and we can't wait to do more with this talented bunch.
